Hi!
I was looking at the geekdinner talk list..
http://wiki.geekdinner.org.za/wiki/Cape_Town_November_2007#Talks
I suspect (just a theory) that a big reason for the GeekDinners not getting
above about 60 people showing up is because of the talk topics.
Maybe somebody has a better theory? (:
I propose we try keep the next round of talks more accessible to the general
geeky community.
I think the following talks are not a good idea:
> Quality assurance - wanted by nbm, Simon Kelly
who cares?
> Generic functions - wanted by nbm, preferably by Bryn Divey
ditto
> Javascript without too much pain and hideousness
in 5min?
enough about programming languages aready.
> Django compared to other popular Python web frameworks
ditto
> AJAX libraries and/or SAn Web 2.0 applications
dittto
> CouchDb - wanted by nbm, preferably by Bryn Divey ;)
ditttto
Things I would like to see..
* people talking about their own projects
* people getting other people to join their projects
* people talking about local za / cape town projects
* maybe a bit of the softer side geeky stuff, like "getting things done",
productivity stuff, "life hacks"
* more on entrepreneurship
* more on blogging, yeah it's popular,
maybe I could talk about wordpress security and managing 10+ blogs with svn
* cool, impressive, fun stuff.. how you built a cluster of X computers to
something fun.
..ok, just some random ideas,
please help guide the content of the geekdinners.. I'd say the general rule
should be geeky but not nerdy.
Nerdy is welcome here, by the way.. (:
