Let me be the first to say, wine is NOT that important to me... It is a 
geekdinner. If the wine "sponsor" can not see the value in providing 20 
bottles of wine in exchange for 5 minutes of 80 mostly affluent people's 
  time then I think he is missing the point.

I don't want to go to a wine tasting, I want to go to a geekdinner. If 
he wanted to set up a table on the side with various glasses of plonk 
and tell me about them while I sipped away and pretended to taste what 
he said I should taste then I'd be more than happy to buy a bottle or 
two as well.

40 minutes of the average geek's time is worth at least R200. That's 6 
bottles of wine at pick and pay. Multiply that 80 times and we can buy 
480 bottles of wine.

Ie. If he doesn't want to sponsor wine for the tables then I'll be more 
than happy to just buy it myself.

Sorry if I sound a bit biting. I have a headache and thinking about a 
wine guru speak for 40 minutes about his passion is making it worse.
